How Freedom Successfully Manages Tight Timelines and Uncertain Destinations

Background 

Freedom Freight Solutions LLC (hereafter referred to as Freedom) is a freight management company that provides transportation services to a wide range of customers across the United States. One of our clients is a manufacturer that produces goods at multiple locations across the country. Freedom is responsible for shipping these goods to various destinations across the lower 48 states. However, this client's unique shipping needs presented some significant challenges that Freedom needed to overcome.

Challenges 

One of the primary challenges faced by Freedom was the tight timeline for shipping the freight. We have a total of 10 days to ship out the goods once they are ready, and we ship by the piece and may not have a full load but still have to ship. The destinations for these shipments were not known until the freight was ready to ship, making it difficult to plan and route the shipments. As a result, the company had to act quickly to find available trucks and route the shipments as efficiently as possible. 

Issues Caught 

Another significant challenge faced by Freedom was the potential for errors in the freight information provided by the manufacturer. In some instances, the freight was entered incorrectly into the system, leading to misrouted shipments. We were able to intercept and reroute some of these shipments before they were delivered, others were not caught until after delivery, requiring reshipment to the correct location. 

What Freedom Freight Solutions LLC Does 

To meet these challenges, Freedom took on a significant amount of responsibility for managing the shipping process. We service multiple locations for the manufacturer, routing the freight for some locations while sending trucks directly to others. We work to maximize truckloads, even when they only have a partial amount of freight to transport. Additionally, Freedom manages communication with both the manufacturer and the end-users to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible. We also monitor trailer pools at each location to ensure there are enough trailers available to keep the shipments moving. 

Solving Problems 

To address these challenges, Freedom took a proactive approach to managing the shipping process. We took on the burden of routing freight for some locations, thereby freeing up the manufacturer's resources. We also managed communication with the manufacturer's customers, ensuring that everything was delivered correctly and on time. If any issues arose, Freedom worked to solve them quickly and kept the manufacturer informed of their progress. Additionally, we monitor inventory levels at each location to ensure they could put routes together efficiently.
